The BCLG commissioned this shot in order to show visitors the many layers of transport activity that are crowded together in this district. This has been the “front door” of Hamilton for 150 years. As the image loads, you are looking north across Lake Ontario. Ship traffic comes to this point to enter Burlington Bay and Hamilton Harbour by passing through the canal. As you rotate the view, you will eventually be looking south across Hamilton Harbour at the Bayfront steel mills which historically provided the city’s economic base.
